Wee tiny spoiler for Heroes, so I’m putting this behind a jump.
According to creator Tim Kring, [Christopher] Eccleston’s mystery man will “introduce a large element of mythology to the show. You’re about to learn that there was a whole previous generation of heroes and that they had adventures of their own.” A flashback episode slated for late February will explain much of their history, says Kring, and more older heroes will be revealed as the series progresses.
That explains why his character is described as having “Survivor’s Guilt”.
Much like The Doctor.
Christopher Eccleston’s also rumoured to be cast in the movie version of “The Dark is Rising” and I am really hoping he’s cast as Merryman Lyon. The character is very… TimeLord-y as well.
There’s a lot of flak already about changes that are being made to the book to adapt it for the screen, but as I’m reading it, I think the people that are worried about the changes don’t really need to worry too much.
First on on the up side, John Hodge is doing the screenplay. He’s the man who was behind Trainspotting, A Life Less Ordinary, and Shallow Grave (and The Beach, but we’ll ignore that for now).
Second, casting Americans for the family isn’t that impossible if it’s handled well. There are American transplants in England. There are also people who are from England, move to America, and then (quite sensibly, IMO) go back there. If the parents (or at least one of them) is English it’d be easy enough to see how an American kid could be a descendant of… well… Skip it for spoilers.
