Let The Wank Begin!

Little-known actor Chris Pine has been chosen to play the young Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movie.

Pine had to turn down a role opposite George Clooney in the film White Jazz in order to play Kirk because of a clash of filming schedules.

Lord of the Rings actor Karl Urban will play Leonard “Bones” McCoy, the Starship Enterprise’s medical officer.

The film, which chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew, will be released in the US on 25 December 2008. The Paramount Pictures film is expected to begin shooting in November.

The movie will show the crew meeting at the Starfleet Academy and embarking on their first mission.

I am optimistic and think Simon Pegg will be a cool Scotty.

  2. The Ninth Says:

I think Simon Pegg will steal the film. It’s everyone else that has me worried. Mostly I think I’m waiting for people to start yelling about Checkov. Dawny and a few other people are a little creeped out by the idea that “Sylar” is going to be Spock, too.

Is “Nemo” a name I should know from the original series?

  3. kittiboi Says:

I don’t know of any Nero and I can totally see Sylar as spock. Spock can be really creepy looking in some of the shows and the movie and I think this guy has the same look. I’d say it’s a really good choice.

Wow… I grew up watching the original Star Trek, went to see “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” the opening weekend, liked TNG, *meh* about DS9, and thought Enterprise had potential. I’m honestly not sure what I think of Star Trek returning to its root, recasted for “today’s audiences.”

    What would Gene Roddenberry say?

It might re-ignite interest in Paramount’s franchise, which I’m sure they won’t mind. Just as comic book fans have mixed emotions about the Batman film franchise, us Trekkies/Trekkers have mixed feelings about the new Star Trek.

“Please don’t eff this us, Paramount. Don’t rape my childhood. :)”

Enterprise had potential if they kept the original premise of that era of Star Trek History. They chose to rewrite it to new storylines, and it didn’t last the 3 episodes I give a new series (new BSG not counted there, took a full season to get me). I did like the episodes where they got the Defiant vessel that was originally lost in Tholian space, but it harkened to TOS, so that was the reason.

Ken, don’t tell me you didn’t like “Trials and Tribbleations.” That episode has to be near the top for well done on DS9.
