If You Never See Me Again…

January 3, 2008

It’s because I’ve run off with my car to marry it.

So I was supposed to have a dentist appointment today. Turns out the dentist broke her foot over the Christmas holiday and won’t be in. So that’s one less thing I have to do today.

I still have to go drop a check off at the insurance agent’s. I was actually going to walk up there, but it’s friggin’ cold out. And no, this is not an excuse to drive my new car somewhere. I can drive that around all I want without an excuse. The agent’s is actually just a little too close to make driving anything other than a hassle.

Course, I can combine it with a trip to the post office, and then I don’t have to fuss with parking.

I did go out for a joyride this morning. The car handles so well and so silently, although I keep reaching for the shifter. It’s been such a long time since I drove an automatic that it’ll be a while before I stop doing that, I think.

Anyhow, I was brave and I took the car up a busy surface road so I would do a lot of stop and go (the brakes in this thing are fantastic and very grippy so I wanted to learn how to not make sudden, jerky stops). Then I took a short jaunt up I-95 just to get used to highways again. I’ve been kind of terrified of highways since I wrecked my last car on one, but this was really nice. Even surrounded by tractor trailers, I felt safe and visible and I knew the car could maintain speed and not get blown around by the draft from the trailers.

Took a little tour through Highlandtown, went to Starbucks (also stopped for some milk), and then came home. The car tells me that currently I’m getting about 100 miles to the gallon. That’ll change once I start driving to work (tomorrow!) and actually using more gas than electric.

Speaking of Gas and Electric, we’re finally getting the electrical work done on the house that really should have been done, oh, 13 years ago.

Gizmo has a vet appointment tonight, Kitti has a show tomorrow (Brass Monkey in Fell’s Point for any of you local folks), and mom gets her new car on Saturday.

Still not writing.

  2. Holy $H!t….you’re upgrading the wiring. Thank (superior entity of your choice here).

I worried a little about how a gadget gal like yourself and the electricity were going to co-exist with wiring dating back to eniac.

Are you installing a new panel in the basement? Feel free to e-mail me with any questions.

I am somewhat jealous of your new car BTW.

  3. Just the panel is being upgraded at this point. More and bigger and stronger and yadda. That will help a lot. The wiring will be upgraded, probably in the spring. More outlets put in and stuff. That’s going to take a lot more work/time/money, so it has to wait.

We REALLY need to get the kitchen wall repaired, too. Possibly first, before anything else.

And then, one day, replacement windows.

I’m jealous of my car, too. I shouldn’t own anything this damn cool.

  4. I REALLY shouldn’t own a car this damn cool! The dealership gave up trying to get me a Package 2 and made me an Offer I Couldn’t Refuse. I got a Package 4 for the same price I agreed to pay originally. I got bells & whistles I’ll never use. Good ploy though.
