I Am Le Tired!

Daffydd came over and fixed my computer! In return, I amused his pet monkey. I mean his son. Who did not cry at all. I think that might be some sort of a record for me. Anyhow the monkey’s okay in my book.
So the computer’s fixed. It’s got a new hard drive and a clean install of Windows XP. Unfortunately I don’t have internet. I don’t know WHY I don’t have internet. Obviously I do on the notebook, so I can only assume there’s something I’m missing that I need to install.
Except. Except I don’t know what’s missing.
Well. One of the things that’s missing is whatever is supposed to be in My Network Places. I’ve got nothing there, and all the troubleshooting stuff starts with “Go there and right-click on the connection and change these settings”.
So I assume what I’m missing is the connection.
Not only am I Le Tired, I am Le Confused.

Didn’t check that did we. Merde.
Check and see if under Network connections/properties you show a Local network Connection. If not, you’ll need to run Hardware install wizard to install your network card.
If it is there, then you might just need some help getting it set up. You can call me if you like.

There is no Local Network Connection.
Hardware install wizard says it can’t install the network card.
I don’t know why. I also don’t know what kind of card it is, so I can’t find drivers for it.

quick fix (cheap too) buy a network card and install. Should come with an install cd. Your current one may be motherboard based and finding the driver can be painful. If it’s not motherboard based, look inside the machine and get the make off the card. Driverguide.com will have almost any driver you need.
