The Dark Knight

I give it five stars.
Out of ten.
It could have been about an hour shorter. It could have done with one less villain. It could have done with some plot. It could have done without Christian Bale’s modulated Batman voice (and was he wearing fake teeth, or has he always had that lisp?)
It could have done with WAY more Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman. Like, way more.
Does Heath Ledger deserve an oscar for this? No. Was he good as the Joker? Kinda. In a way that was sort of a combination of Jack Nicholson’s Joker as voiced by French Stewart. Honestly, I kept waiting for him to say “This town needs an enema!” He did actually say something that started with “this town needs…”. There were a few moments when he really did seem unhinged and I thought he was kind of scary/creepy.
I did like Maggie Gyllenhaal in for Katie Holmes, and I wonder if the first movie would have been improved by casting her in the first place.
Overall though, I’m sorry I paid full price for it. A matinee ticket would’ve been better. Seeing it at home would’ve been worse, though. There were times when I knew that if I had been watching it on DVD I would’ve wandered off to check email or have a pee and I wouldn’t have bothered pausing.
Oh, also? WAAAAY too much eyeliner on the Mayor, and Comish. Gordon was totally giving off the creepy 70s Pornstar vibe. Is it just me, or does Gary Oldman do that a lot?

Oh, really… That was my one hope for a good movie. Or any movie, really. My last one was Enchanted. It’s been a while.
