A Strange Day

I'm not looking for aesthetics. I just want to make some tea.

I’ve never really been happy with any of the WordPress templates. I’m still not happy with them. So many of them just feel so sterile. I always feel like they make my site look like one of the spam blogs. You know the ones — the ones that leave comments that say “very nice site! Useful information. Please keep posting” and the link leads back to an aggregate sort of page that has weird snippets of posts and half-copied news stories. Like it’s pulling keywords from an RSS feed without any sort of logic.

I like the tags and categories. I always start out thinking I’ll do it right. I’ll keep things organized. Then I forget. Or mistype. Or get silly. Then everything falls apart and I have a huge, disorganized mess. If you’ve ever seen my house you’d know that this is the standard for my life. Best laid plans yadda yadda. My knitting is a huge mess despite various efforts to organize, control, sort, and contain. I end up buying set after set of needles because I have most of the size and/or length I need, but not all of them, and if I’m going to start a new project, why not just get new needles so I know I have the right ones.

This is a habit I have to get out of. I don’t think I actually will. Good intentions blah blah blah.

Anyhow. The emptying out of this site is another attempt to haul in some of the mess. One of these days I’ll probably delete everything in my Tumblr account and start that over clean and fresh, too. Or not, because that’s like… thousands of stupid things I’d have to weed through and I’m nothing if not lazy.

  1. Lorena Said,

What’s wrong with buying new needles every time you start a project? So that you know you have the right size and length?

  2. DataAngel Said,

Well… for one thing, I now have a box that’s overflowing with needles. Especially DPNs. The dog thinks they’re chewsticks. And someone thinks it’s silly.
