Things I Learned

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Sunday we went to The Guitar Center. The one in Glen Burnie, instead of the one in Towson.

I learned that the GPS in the car really does interfere with the EZPass device. Kitti swears that it’s okay, and even though it didn’t read the little box, the fact that we have an EZPass account means it’ll be fine. I’m trusting him, because he worked for them for a pretty long time.

I learned that there are few things as beautiful as a wall covered with guitars.

I also got it into my head that I want to dress Kitti up like Captain Jack Harkness for Balticon. I’ve already got the coat….

Where I’ve Been

Because apparently My Public demands to know….

I forgot to take my keys to work on Friday, so I had to meet Kitti in Fell’s Point (at Slainte of course). Ended up getting Radiohead’s In Rainbows and Bruce Springsteen’s Magic while we were in Fell’s Point. Kitti is currently in horror that he likes a Springsteen CD.

Saturday we drove around at night.

Sunday we went back to Fell’s Point, Slainthe, and a really nice “newsstand” that has magazines from all over the world. We also found the new movie theatre (which is showing Atonement, which I still don’t really want to see).

Now I’m at work, and I’m working. I also just ordered I Am Kloot’s Gods and Monsters from Amazon, because I haven’t been able to find it anywhere.

Gizmo really does have a bladder infection, and the antibiotics are helping, but she hates the special prescription cat food. I suspect it’s because it’s always the same flavour and I understand that most people don’t want to eat the exact same thing every day (I, however, am very happy doing that, and yes I’m aware I just called the cat “people”).

I might’ve found a Welsh Terrier breeder in Northern Virginia, and that’s got me kind of excited. See, this is why we were waiting to get a car before we got a dog.

We’re putting off going to Wales for a while, mostly because Kitti still doesn’t have his green card and we don’t really want to risk travel without it.

Adagio had “Candy Cane” tea for the holidays. It’s not quite like mint tea. It’s actually a lot like drinking a cough drop. I don’t know how I feel about that.

I really have to recommend the Ginger tea, though, and the Lemon, which is apparently very popular because it’s totally sold out.

Still want this

And there you have it. That’s where I’ve been.

Whew.

The flight back was delayed a little bit which wasn’t bad, except it was hot in the airport and we were getting drowsy and driven insane by the Christmas music.

Friday and Saturday.

I think we walked for about 12 hours.

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Yesterday we got up at six in the morning. We left the house about 6:30, I guess? Got to the airport at OH MY GOD EARLY and then our flight was 45 minutes late. How typical, right? But it wasn’t bad. The airport has WiFi and it wasn’t crowded. But neither of us sat still very long, and wandered around the place.

I think the longest we sat most of the day was the flight, which only took about an hour.

We got to Logan Airport, found the bus to the Blue Line, got the Blue to the Green and actually found our hotel in MINUTES. Which is impressive for us - since I get lost going around the corner.

We checked in and immediately went back out again in a quest for a convenience store of some sort (sodas and the “incidentals” we didn’t pack to speed up the trip through airport security). We walked and counted Dunkin Donuts (yay!) and meandered through Chinatown and found a CVS.

We found our way back to the hotel (score!) and then went out AGAIN to the Museum of Fine Arts. Which is massive. Huge. And it’s also quite large. We were in there for about sixteen days and walked roughly 5000 miles.

Well, I did say it was large.

Seriously awesome museum. It’s like if you combined the Walters and the BMA and maybe something from Washington DC. Although I think I still prefer the Walters. First of all, it’s free. It’s also kind of like home. But still… the amount of Egyptian stuff they had was just amazing. Some really nice presentation, too.

Then we walked and walked and walked and looked at stuff. And then we took the Green line back to the hotel. PACKED. Woah. Massively packed.

Back at the hotel (found three times in a row!), then out again to dinner. An Irish pub (I like Slainte better). Then, finally, to the room. Nine PM.

Lots of time spent standing. Lots of time spent walking. So far I’m still alive.

Today we’re going to wander. There’s a graveyard right up the street at Boston Commons.

It Isn’t

It isn’t until you’re packing to go somewhere that you realise every single connection cable you own is black with a USB connector at one end and a different sized plug at the other. Somewhere in this nest of wires is the cable for one of our two cameras and my eBook.

Strangely, I do have the cellphone charger and my headset charger.

I also have a wire for my noise-cancelling headphones…. but no headphones.

One day I will sit down with all these anonymous black wires and sort them and tag them.

Today is not that day.
